In 1998, JCPenneys launched its third channel for shopping convenience. Its Internet store has grown into one of the largest apparel and home furnishings retail sites on the Internet. Among its general merchandise peers, the online store has the highest rate (10.1%) of converting site visitors into buyers. J.C. Penney also operated Eckerds Drugs.

City has filed a lawsuit against JC Penney, alleging a store clerk
yelled obscenities at his family and called them "illegals" when he
attempted to use his diplomatic tax-exempt privilege.
- PLANO - Despite the recent
upheaval in the home-furnishings market, the home
business has been a driving force in JC Penneys revival. The
J.C. Penney Home Collection is now the country’s largest
private brand, with sales closing in on $2 billion a year,
according to Deb Evans, who oversees the label for the
Plano-based chain.
